edmonds, washington, has always been a quite little town. nestled against the west coast, it has been a safe haven for the supernatural for centuries. fleeing persecution during the salem witch trials, a group of witches headed west in search of a place they could be safe, joined by a few vampires, werewolves, and a solitary fallen angel. a vampire named malachi edmonds emerged as the natural leader, encouraging harmony between the races. when they reached the coast, they settled down, and malachi was voted as the leader of their new town, which they named after him. though settlers eventually came, actual discovery of edmonds was kept at bay by the fact that the explorers that did make it back from the little town alive were either thought to be crazy, or didn't share their story at all for fear of being labeled so. but as the country grew, civilization inevitably came to edmonds. the townsfolk were able to keep the human population at bay, but they moved closer and closer, and eventually right into town. still, malachi watched over his town and ruled it the best he could, keeping the humans in the dark about the supernatural beings they met, lived near, and worked with on a daily basis, and the town continued to be a save haven. when the united states government finally began to form and stretch toward the west coast, malachi started 'hiring' witches, werewolves, or even humans to play the role of mayor, putting people he trusted into official positions so that the town would continue to run the way he wanted it to.
as the human population grew, the supernatural residents of edmonds were forced to move underground, and they naturally took their places among the criminals, leading drug, crime, and prostitution rings. these days, if you're into something shady in edmonds, something not human is behind it. a few years ago, malachi's oldest son found him dead in his room, and the real trouble began. the town split into various factions, each of them vying for the rule of edmonds. malachi's family, who believes he was doing the right thing by the town. other members who thought it was time he stepped down, and were growing tired of his refusal to change with the times. werewolves and witches who felt that malachi was treating vampires better than the other races. vampires who felt his family was getting the best treatment. and of course hunters. the only question now is, will a new leader of edmonds emerge, or will the town fall to humans, and in the process, lose one of the only safe places for the supernatural to exist?
